Description For anyone who has ever wanted to learn how to weave -- here's a great place to start. Using the book Kids Weaving by Sarah Swett, we will be exploring the ancient and modern art of weaving. We will start with some simple projects involving paper, photographs, and maps and move on to more traditional materials such as wool and twine. We will weave without a loom, with a cardboard loom, and eventually, build a working loom with heddles out of PVC pipe. Projects may include notecards, treasure bags, shoelaces, and belts. Along the way we will discuss a little bit about the history of weaving and the geography of where our various weaving materials originated. This is a hands-on study group and the only requirement is patience and a willingness to keep trying. Participants should be willing and able to to sit and weave.
