Using a variety of Media - Movies (fictional and documentary), TV episodes, music, newsreels, etc., we will study the second half of the 20th century. We will watch (and/or listen to) and discuss the media during study groups. We hope to cover events and issues such as the Korean and Vietnam wars, women's rights, civil rights, music, the space race, etc. Media under consideration include "Forrest Gump"; "Pleasantville"; "October Sky"; "Nine to Five"; "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"; episodes of "M*A*S*H", "All In The Family", "Maude"; news footage of Apollo 13, the space shuttle Challenger explosion; and much more. With parental permission we may be viewing some movies with "R" ratings. |
