| Description | [What do you need to do to get into college beyond taking the SAT?! Just what is EA, ED (or even weirder...EDII) and is it something I should consider? How hard can it all be? Well...that all depends! This class will seek to demystify the process for students and their families by providing a realistic view of the college admissions process in the year 2008. Is it as hard to get into a college as we read in the newspapers? What are the options and just when do you have to start thinking about all this? Do you really need to apply to 20 colleges? Just who does that anyway? This class will answer all of those questions and more. Each week we will examine a different aspect of college admissions from how to pick a list of schools to visit and apply to, to the nuts and bolts of timetables and just what and when things are due. Topics including how to prepare for a college interview, who to pick to write your letters of recommendation and the importance of the student essay will all be examined. Ultimately the job of selecting schools and getting applications completed will rest with the student and secondarily the family, but this class will aim to provide guidance and reassurance and to help you to see that the college application process like every other step in your educational journey thus far is an opportunity for learning more about yourself and where you want to be. There is a school out there where every student can be happy, and you may not even know it's name yet!] |
