| Description | "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." ~Mahatma Ghandi This study group will encourage personal efforts towards positive change. Students will participate in a variety of community service activities on/off-site and reflect on the experiences in class through discussion, journaling, or activist videos created by the students (i.e. YouTube). We may view short documentaries as a preface to some service efforts. As we will occasionally be traveling outside of Voyagers, it is crucial that all partcipants are mature enough to be respectful of others. Volunteer efforts could include assisting in: The Food Project (food produce), Loaves and Fishes (food pantry), Rosie's Place (sanctuary for poor and homeless women and children), the Children's Hospital, book collections and literacy efforts, winter clothing collections, and others depending on the interests of the group. Students should be able to handle mature and sensitive discussions/dynamics. Hannah 18 Apr 2008 |
