Allergy Guidelines, 2012-2013

While we cannot guarantee a “perfect” environment, we can all make a difference. Please help make Voyagers a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Some Voyagers members have life threatening allergies to various foods. The current (spring 2012) critical allergens of which we are aware are: peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, spelt, soy, dairy products and chocolate.

We also have members for whom some of the above foods are necessary. Please see the guidelines below, so we can try to make our building comfortable for everyone.

We also have several members with allergies or sensitivities to scented products (from perfumes to cleansers).

Allergen reactions can be triggered by ingestion, physical contact, exposure to cooking fumes, and even from sitting near a dish containing the allergen.

Guidelines:

If you are able to make other choices, please do not bring peanuts or tree nuts to Voyagers. If you do bring nuts, please restrict any items to the “Nuts OK” table nearest the kitchen.

Never place any items containing allergen ingredients on the “No Nuts/No Wheat tables” farthest from the kitchen.

Please do not cook or reheat anything containing peanuts or tree nuts.

Please always clean up after yourself and remove any food residue from the tables. After handling any allergens, use warm soapy water to clean your hands as well as the tables, dishes, utensils and other affected surfaces.

Please do not offer any food to any child without checking with his/her parent first.

Please do not eat in areas with upholstery or carpeting.

Please use low-odor dry erase or other markers.

Please use unscented or low-odor cleaners and other products.

Please refrain from wearing strongly perfumed products.

If someone in your family has a life-threatening allergy, or if you want more information regarding allergy concerns at Voyagers, please email allergies@voyagersinc.org ASAP.

Change to previous guidelines

Please note: In the past, we have asked people to avoid bringing items containing latex to Voyagers. That restriction is no longer necessary.
