Skill Requirements/Prerequisites Must be willing/able to spend 4-6 hours per week on homework (reading, writing, thinking) While assignments may be tailored for each participant, it is essential that each participant be willing to complete them on time. This group requires a good amount of independent work. Need interest in subject. All who are up for the challenge are welcome!

Description This group will combine a study of Early American History using the "Story of Us" with literature, art and archeology. We will include an overnight field trip to the Pequot Museum and Mystic Seaport in the spring. We will participate in a simulation at the museum. We will begin with a field trip to a local archeological dig. We will read both the text and literature from the time period. We will study a number of Native American cultures and each person will be responsible for a project on a specific tribe. We will also have a unit on folktales and myths of native cultures and of the major immigrant cultures in America.
