| Family Provided Materials | Kids must have a copy of the books we are reading when we are reading them--can be library books as long as they can have them checked out as we are discussing them. If you need to buy a book quickly, I have Amazon Prime and can usually get books in two days with no shipping fee. |

| Description | We will read one book over a two week period and discuss them as a group (the kids will talk, I'll ask some leading questions). Outside reading will be necessary. Most weeks we'll have some sort of activity to go along with the books (e.g., as we did for Chasing Vermeer in the fall--playing with pentominoes and doing something with blue M&Ms). The books will all be about 5th grade to 8th grade in both reading level and content. I'm working on finding books from the Newbery Medal Winners and Honor Books list. A few that I'm considering are The View from Saturday, A Wrinkle in Time, Adam of the Road, The Tombs of Atuan, The High King, and Miracles on Maple Hill, but I will make more definite choices over the break once I see who is in the group and once I have a chance to pre-read a few that I haven't read. More recent Newbery books are a possibility--let me know if you have any recommendations! [Replace this text with your class description!] |
